Volume 3

Nearly every day since my last email in April, I've thought about needing to send this third email. I think I need a coach to work through this resistance with me!

Speaking of coaching...

Discover. Define. Do.

Since my last update, I've had the privilege to support several individuals who are in a pivotal place in their lives and want to make significant career changes. I use a three-part methodology focused on:

  1. Discovering the type of work that lights them up, the type of culture they desire, and potential job areas that interest them.

  2. Defining the career path they desire, based on the discovery, to enable a clear path for their search. Plus, we define their resume to align to the skills and experience needed for their new role.

  3. Doing the initial work to get them ready for their career search. I encourage my clients to create a list of everyone in their network* they can reach out to for support, and we do a mock interview with practice questions that apply to their future role.

*In an upcoming email I'll share what I recommend my clients do with the second tab of this worksheet.

More on Discover. Define. Do.

I'm becoming a certified coach.

No, I'm not talking about a sports coach. I recently enrolled in a six-month coach training program with Accomplishment Coaching to refine my 1:1 coaching skills. I've worked with several admirable coaches who went through this training program, and I'm excited to be able to receive similar training.  For years I've wanted to enroll in this program, and the stars aligned to allow me the flexibility to start the training now.

The course teaches the foundational elements of coaching that can be applied to any specialty coaching area (life coach, executive coach, career coach, business coach, etc).

In addition to the 80+ hours of course work, I'm also required to have 100 hours of coaching experience to receive my certification.  If you or anyone you know could use coaching support to reach a personal or business goal, let me know!

What I'm reading and listening to:

The Emotional Lives of Teenagers, by Dr. Lisa Damour.

My take: While I don't technically have a teenager yet, according to psychologists the "teenage" years actually start at 11 and I need to be prepared.

How To Help Anyone In Your Life Who’s Struggling - Fantastic Strategies From A Yale-Educated Psychologist | The Mel Robbins Podcast

My take: This is the podcast that turned me onto buying the book from Dr. Damour.  It's a good listen for anyone, regardless if you have children.

Job Therapy: Finding work that works for you, by Tessa West.

It's on the shelf at the library waiting for me to pick it up.
